Deformity, a localized phenomenon, lends resonance to this story of absence, a contraction of the vocal presence in writing. If sound leaves a print on a surface viewed obliquely as to convey the impression of air, we describe its memory as metaphor. Presage, a name attached to another body, divining the obscure motions of lungs and stomach.
